Chairman’s Update – May 2024

Your Parish Council have been working hard to keep things running smoothly in Cookhill.

Platinum Meadows

The new meadow behind Ridgeway Meadows is being used regularly and has now been awarded protected status by the Fields in Trust and will be retained for the enjoyment of the parishioners in perpetuity.

Cookhill Village Hall Coffee Mornings

In 2023 Cllr Sumner started a very successful Coffee Morning every Friday at the Village Hall. Since the pandemic a lot of residents had started to feel isolated in their own homes with no opportunity to meet up with friends and neighbours. The Coffee Morning has grown into a very popular weekly outing for many, giving Cookhill parishioners a place to meet for a coffee, a piece of cake and a catch up. Recently the Parish Council have combined the Coffee Mornings with roadshows from the Police and Wychavon and we hope to add more specialist events in 2024. The Coffee Morning runs from 10am until Midday every Friday.

The Parish Council would like to thank Cllr Sumner and her team of volunteers for all their hard work.

Allotments

The Parish Council wished to thank Mr David Claydon and the Allotment Association for their ongoing hard work at the site.

The Allotment Association have welcomed several new tenants over the past year with the site looking very neat and tidy. One plot has been turned into a wildlife area with the grass kept strimmed and small shrubs and plants to attract butterflies and bees.

Cookhill Village Hall

The Village Hall were successful in securing funding from Wychavon for their solar panel project, which is in the final stages and should see works carried out in the coming year. The Parish Council awarded the Village Hall a grant to replace the old hot water boiler that could not be repaired and is extensively used by non-profit organisations hiring the Village Hall as well as the Coffee Morning.

Chairman’s Update – January 2023

Happy New Year!

The Parish Council is looking forward to an exciting 2023, with local elections due to take place in early May and the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The Parish Council are researching ways to commemorate this historic event.

Platinum Meadows

2022 saw the new Platinum Meadows take shape. The meadow, situated behind Ridgeway Meadow has always been a popular route for dog walkers, as the footpath runs across from the Ridgeway to Botany Bay Nurseries. When the Parish Council had the opportunity to take back this piece of land from one it its tenants it was decided that preserving this area for future generations was the right thing to do.

100 saplings were planted around the perimeter, with a larger oak tree in the centre, complete with a beautiful circular teak bench and 4 fruit trees in one corner, making a future orchard. With help from the Allotment Association Chair and Vice Chair, David Claydon and Jeremy Handy and parishioner, John Hughes, the area was mown into a Union Flag. Crocus bulbs, spelling out ELIZABETH II have been planted, with a quantity of daffodil bulbs to ensure a riotous display of spring colour!

With a further 150 mixed saplings due to be planted this month the meadow promises to be quite a spectacle!

The meadow has been registered with the Fields In Trust so that it will remain in place in perpetuity.

Parish Council Meetings

The Parish Council continue to meet once a month, on the second Tuesday, in the rear Conference Room at SE Davis, on Edgioake Lane. The room suits the purposes of the Council perfectly as it is large and airy and can accommodate lots of parishioners, should the need arise.

Website Accessibility Regulations

Many people rely on the internet as a source of information on public services. Local councils already consider those with disabilities when organising events, delivering services and public meetings. Similarly, thought must be given to how accessible information is on council websites. Disabilities can have a significant impact on how a person can access information online, so local councils must make their websites as accessible as possible. Even making small adjustments to a website can have a considerable effect.

The Parish Council have assessed their website for accessibility and installed software to enable everyone to successfully navigate the site. You can read our Accessibility Statement in full here.
